The Way Florida Was Meant to Be
Before the Theme Parks. Before the High-Rises.

Our Story
Retro Tropics started with a feeling. The kind you get pulling off the highway onto a coastal road that hasn't been resurfaced since the seventies. Palm fronds scraping the windshield. A bait shop with a hand-painted sign. A motel pool faded the exact color of seafoam. The kind of Florida that doesn't show up in tourist brochures because it's too busy being itself.
We make hats for that Florida — the one with grit, charm, and saltwater in its veins. The Florida of cracker cowboys and coastal fishermen, of mangrove tunnels and grass flats, of front porches and firm handshakes. The Florida where folks know how to fix what's broken, catch what they eat, and lend a hand without being asked.
"Florida isn't just a place — it's a feeling, a memory, a longing for authenticity in a world that's always rushing forward."
This is the Florida that existed before the high-rises blocked the horizon and the theme parks rewrote the script. We didn't invent it. We just refused to forget it. Every hat we make is a small act of preservation — a tip of the brim to the people, places, and stories that made this state what it is, long before anyone tried to package it.
What We Make
Hats. That's it. Made well, made on purpose, made for people who'd rather hear a story than read a guidebook.
Our launch collection is three designs across two builds. Two trucker caps — structured, snapback — for the everyday rotation and the premium suede caps, no mesh, mid-crown, for the days that deserve something a little more deliberate.
What We Believe
- The real over the manufactured. We'd rather you fall for a place than for a brand. The brand just gets you there.
- Character comes from miles, not marketing. Our hats are made to be worn. Sunburned, salt-stained, slept in. That's when they start to look right.
- Florida deserves better than its reputation. We're not a punchline. We're a coastline. We're cattle country. We're fishing villages and inland prairies and citrus stands and a couple million people who actually like it here.
- Hospitality runs deeper than transactions. Reach out — we're humans. Slow to capitalize the right words. Quick to answer an email.
A Note from the Founder
When I first got to Florida (I'm from the countryside in the UK) the first things I saw were the cityscapes and the developments, and it didn't feel like me. The more I see of the Old Florida the more I see its still there, and the spirit of it is still alive in the people. This is my Florida, I feel like I'm nostalgic for something that I was never able to experience, and thats what Retrotropics is all about.
